Bringing Jesus Christ to the incarcerated of Sedgwick County

CMO is primarily a volunteer ministry, having only three paid staff (sometimes paid!).  These faithful stewards and volunteers deliver the abundance of the chapel services, group bible studies, and one-on-one counseling available to the inmates.  Additionally, many other volunteers are needed to perform the data entry, office tasks, and report preparation that are mandated by the Sheriff's department.  Thankfully, many have served for years in these capacities.  However, regardless of how dedicated one is to the work of the Lord, life does bring changes to each of us. Consequently, the ministry has an ongoing need for new volunteers.  Click Here to View Volunteer Application. Individuals doing one-on-one counseling in the jail ministerial booths must complete a "Ministerial Affidavit" in addition to the "Volunteer Application."

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES in the CMO workroom:

Data Entry /Keyboarding (CMO activity must be logged in the database for accountability to the Sheriff's department.)

For Chapel Services and group bible studies:
Volunteers are needed to enter the names of inmates who have requested chapel services, as well as tracking those that attended services the previous week. All activity of the inmate must be tracked and logged in the computer. This is a continuous activity as CMO holds two or three services each day. Volunteers are scheduled as available between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Servicing Indigent Inmates:
(All services to indigent inmates must be tracked and logged in the computer.)

Preparing individual packets with personal hygiene items, paper and pencil and envelopes, greeting cards, and sundry other items as requested by the inmate.

An average of 150 indigent packets are prepared and delivered each week.

Each inmate that is requesting an indigent packet must be checked through the computer data base to see if they are indigent. Once their eligibility is established, the items requested must be entered into the computer. Finally, the packets must be filled individually according to the requested items, then placed on delivery carts to be distributed to eligible inmates throughout the facility.

Mailing Newsletters:
CMO mails approximately 1400 to 1500 newsletters every four months to ministry related organizations and churches. Volunteers are needed to:
• Fold the newsletters
• Put address labels on the newsletters
• Sort the newsletters by zip code

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES doing direct ministry to inmates:

    • Leading Chapel Services
    • Leading group bible study
    • One-on-One bible study and counseling in the ministry booths
